In the Dionysian state of ecstasy, the chief desire is to tear apart the singular body and then for the collective to consume its parts, essentially removing individuation in favor of the collective. Neitzche describes the horror of individualized existence through the myth of Silenus (companion to the Greek god, Dionysus) who tells King Midas, “The best of all things is something entirely outside your grasp: not to be born, not to be, to be nothing. But the second best thing for you is to die soon,”(p. 42).
