Hepatoscopy is an ancient form of “divination through the interpretation of sacrificial animal entrails generally and through interpretation of the signs on animal livers could occur together, with the liver being examined first and then the other portions of the entrails" (Collins, 320). This form of fortune-telling involves the examination of the liver of an animal, typically a sheep or a goat, to make predictions or gain insights into the future. It was practiced by various cultures and it was believed that the patterns and characteristics observed in the liver could reveal information about a person's fate, health, or other aspects of their life.
What if we could send back the messenger? As if we know or knew that it was never part of us, instead part of some larger dionysian communal existence of God or the afterlife. What if we know that the body does more than remember and respond? It rats us out to God and to everyone else. It influences us. Free will limited by intestinal cramping.
There is some truth hidden in the breadbasket.
